You Create Your Environment - The Power Of Alternative Thinking

You can create your own environment through the power of alternative thinking... or positive thinking if you will.

I grew up a country boy in Central Florida and I've seen the results first hand of alternative thinking.

No, I'm not going to get all metaphysical; but, there is something to the power of positive thinking or alternative thinking.

One day when I was a teenager, I witnessed one of our cows stuck in the mud. She had struggled with her problem for so long; not finding a solution, she just gave up.

This wasn't on a big ranch where she was missing for days; this was a small 5 acre piece of property; she had just been fed that morning.

We got her out of the mud, and washed her off.  We searched her over for snake bites or any other injury. She looked fine.  She died.

Why did she die, she thought herself to death. She had been in her situation long enough, she "willed" herself to die.

You can do that to yourself and in doing so you create your own environment.

Let me tell you a little story about me and the power of positive or alternative thinking, and creating my own environment.

This has happened to me several time throughout my life.

When I was a young man, I worked in the phosphate mines in Central Florida; like, oh so many men and women do.

The Phosphate Mines have some good jobs; but, for the majority it's hard work with a LOT of exposure to hazardous chemicals.

I decided I didn't want to work in that environment any longer. I decided I wanted to become a Wildlife Officer; I had taken Forestry Management in high school, so this wasn't just a whim of a decision.

I took the placement exam and passed with flying colors; but, when it came to the physical exam... my eyes were too bad. Lasik Surgery wasn't around back then. That was such a slap in the face, and a wake up call.

Hang in there with me and I'll tell you the greatest time I created my own environment... but first, let me finish this.

I had read Think and Grow Rich by Napolean Hill, and other self help books, they kept me inspired.

Following meeting a young lady, we moved to the West Palm Beach Area in Florida.

I met some very affluent people; and , I wanted to be like them,

One of the books I had read had a statement in it.

"First There's Thought - Then There's Action - Then There's Results.

I found another job at a lumber company, a labor job... loading lumber, and throwing around sack of concrete mix. It was back breaking work.  I again needed to create myself a new environment.

The first thing I needed to do was find someone smarter than me, and seek advice.  I asked my Supervisor "what do I need to do to move up".  That simple action resulted in him making me his right hand man.

I asked a Contractor Sales Representative what to do to move up, he talked to the Hardware Department who pulled me into the store as a Hardware Salesman.  I was in the air condition, and no longer throwing lumber and concrete around.

I had my eye set on a Contractor Sales Representative Position. Yep, you guessed it... I found someone smarter than I; I asked the Credit Manager/CFO of the company, "how do I become an Outside Contractor Sales Representative.

This is what he told me, learn some new skills... learn to read bluprints, learn about electrical circuits, and learn about construction estimating. I did all he told me, and I became a Contractor Sales Representative.  I first sought someone smarter than myself.  I took ACTION and learned new skills, and I applied those skills.  Therefore, I created myself a new environment for myself.

I could have done like the old cow, at the first sign of adversity; but, I had been raised by a highly decorated World War II Artillery Officer, and he didn't operate like that.

One of my greatest transformation of creating a new environment with alternative thinking; but definitely not my last.

Was becoming a Nuclear Medicine Technologist.  I found someone smarter, I acquired new skill, and applied those skills for over twenty five years. It created a wonderful environment where I was able to help people during their most vulnerable time.

I've held sick folks in my arms when they breathed their last breathes.  I've performed CPR and brought folks back from deaths door.

I was also overworked and underpaid, and would do it all over again; because I have an internal need to help people.

Since my retirement as a Nuclear Medicine Technologist I help people save money, I help people help each other.

This will be my final creation of my last environment of working from home on the internet; is all done with alternative positive thinking. Finding someone smarter than myself, learning some skills, taking some actions, and applying my skills.

The think about skills, if you don't have them, you can be taught them.
